John Dough and the Cherub Illustrated eBook L Frank Baum

Over the door appeared a weather-worn sign that read "JULES GROGRANDE, BAKER." In one of the windows, painted upon a sheet of cardboard, was another sign "Home-made Bread by the Best Modern Machinery." There was a third sign in the window beyond the doorway, and this was marked upon a bit of wrapping-paper, and said "Fresh Gingerbread Every Day."
When you opened the door, the top of it struck a brass bell suspended from the ceiling and made it tinkle merrily. Hearing the sound, Madame Leontine Grogrande would come from her little room back of the shop and stand behind the counter and ask you what you would like to purchase.
Madame Leontine—or Madame Tina, as the children called her—was quite short and quite fat; and she had a round, pleasant face that was good to look upon. She moved somewhat slowly, for the rheumatism troubled her more or less; but no one minded if Madame was a bit slow in tying up her parcels. For surely no cakes or buns in all the town were so delicious or fresh as those she sold, and she had a way of giving the biggest cakes to the smallest girls and boys who came into her shop, that proved she was fond of children and had a generous heart.

This book is formatted *horrendously* for the Kindle. The edges are ragged, there are page numbers in the middle of pages, and the illustration descriptions--which are pointless since NO illustrations were included-- are left in the middle of the text and just break up the flow of the narrative! This is not even worth the dollar that I paid for it! I have gotten better formatted texts for free from the Guttenberg Project! This version is an embarrassment!Product details

John Dough and the Cherub Illustrated eBook L Frank Baum Reviews
I've been waiting for someone to format "John Dough and the Cherub" as it was one of my favorite reads growing up and my copy is falling apart, but I'll keep it until this kindle edition is fixed. The text narrows into ragged columns in places, leaving unexplained blank areas, and the page headers are included in the text, interrupting the story. Thanks anyway, but no thanks.
JOHN DOUGH AND THE CHERUB is a great story, fully as good as most Oz books, but this edition does not seem to contain the original illustrations by Jno. R. Neill. These illustrations were fantastic, really brought the characters and events to life.
If you're considering buying JOHN DOUGH, get an edition with the original pictures. The Dover edition has them.
UPDATE A downloadable version which includes the pictures, in color and black-and-white, is available at gutenberg-dot-org.
It was an alright story. I have been trying to read all of Baum's books. There were just too many editing errors. Chapter headers were announced on several pages. Somes a bold- face line was included in extra places. It was just distracting
This book was Okay but it was too short. I was expecting a longer book, not a short story. Good for the cheap price.
Baum is the master at creating alternative universes and he did it again in this fun and creative book. If you like the Oz stories, I recommend this book.
Good book
This is yet another fun adventure story. Written about a most unusual character and his many adventures. He is mentioned in the OZ books as he comes to visit OZ in the series. This is a sort of history about him.
